Mismatch was the first collaboration between No Cash Value and Ferns4Raye and Bubbi, then operating under the aliases of Gracie Raye and Studio Boys respectively. Inspired by the music videos of Michel Gondry (Around the World by Daft Punk) we worked with the artists to marry all 3 forms of music video, those led by an artist’s performance, those led by narrative and those that are more conceptually based as defined by Saul Austerlitz (Austerlitz, 2018, p1). Mismatch loosely adheres to a narrative through line as the artist performs the song all the while conceptualising the depths of the inner mind of Ferns4Raye. Using four key colours in a four way split as defined by Bruce Block to represent different mind states (Block, 2020, p179). This video also highlights the musical contributions of its producers, showing Bubbi on Bass and Alfred on Guitar.
Mismatch was the first music video produced by No Cash Value. It was also one of the few solo ventures by Sam who Produced, Directed, Shot and Edited its entirety. Much was learned on this project and the lack of a certain Mr. Quinn was keenly felt.
